Settings retention upon TCP/IP reinstall

I have a two-computer XP/ME network at home, complete
with ICS. The folks in a different forum have
recommended re-installing "networking", which leads me to
two questions here:

1) How do I uninstall and re-install "networking"? Is
this simply un-checking and re-checking the TCP/IP line
in the Network Properties window, or un-checking and re-
checking boxes in the "Add/Remove Windows Components"
window?

2) Setting up the home network was quite difficult and
I'd like to short-circuit what I can. What settings
should I write down, improving my chances of quick
success at re-establishing the network?

Thanks -

Hi -

The TCP-IP stack is an integral component of Windows XP -
you can't "uninstall" TCP-IP, I'm afraid.

You can reset the TCP-IP stack to its default from a
command prompt like this -

netsh int ip reset [log_file_name]

Here's a KB article that might help -

How to Reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in Windows XP

us;299357&Product=winxp

As far as what to write down, you'll need to duplicate
the TCP-IP settings on your network connection pretty
much exactly - including the advanced settings.
Maintaining the same computer name and workgroup name is
probably a good idea.
