Hello, I'm using an Epson photo 4990 scanner with photo shop elements 2 to
scan my pen and ink line drawings, the drawings range from very fine small
works to bolder black lines in larger work.

I want to print my drawings out as cards, does anyone else have any
experience with scanning and printing fine ink art and any ideas you can
pass on.

with thanks
Grant.

Here is a good tutorial on scanning line art (Pen and Ink drawings).
http://www.scantips.com/basics4c.html

I will add to the above tutorial that sometimes you may have to scan Pen and
Ink drawings at a higher resolution then normally recommended. 600 DPI is
not too high a resolution for some fine lines in a drawing. Sometimes if the
lines are real fine, you may have to go to 1200 DPI.

Try to keep the scan resolution low because the file size can get huge.

Save Pen and Ink Drawing as TIFF or Gif. Gif files do not retain the scan
resolution in the file, TIFF does. That is important when you print the
drawing on paper. You need the scan resolution to be able to print at actual
size.

Jpg files do not store line art as 1 bit. Jpg is always 256 bit Grayscale or
24 bit Color.
