OK time to be gentle with me as it's my first time doing this!
I'm trying to set up a wireless connection on my Laptop.
Using a Netgear 54 mbps wireless usb2 adapter.

Installed all the software etc & restarted the Laptop.
It's asks for a password, but i have never set one?

If i click OK it starts up normally, but am unable to get connected to the wireless router sitting 10ft away.
What am i doing wrong?

Seems i set up connection 1 OK, but now have 3 connections & need to delete 2 & keep the first 1.

Any help would be useful on this.

You need to delete all of them i think mate first save you getting confused and start again

Does the laptop detect the router?

Windows will sort it all out for you. I would just allow it to use its own software to find and connect

Do as TD has said let windows detect the settings then put a password in if required:) Who you using IPS?

When the Laptop starts up it comes up with the following:

Log onto Windows: User name & Password
Yet no password has been set & has only come up since installing the Netgear Adaptor?
Have tried various passwords but none work!

If i click OK the laptop starts up OK.

Will try to delete the other 2 connections.

1 thing that does not seem to work is the lights on the Sky wireless router.
As only 1 light is on for the connection connected to the router via the Cat5 cable?

I HATE working on my own pc's!!!!

So its a PCMCIA wireless adaptor you have bought then?

Not having the sky wireless dpo you have to switch it on within router settings?

I'm sure you do at least with the BT one via the interface

Got the settings on a card from Sky.
All set up OK par the instructions & it say's it's connected, But it's not!

So is the WIFI built into laptop or is it a third party card?

Have you tried calling them? Maybe connection light doesnt activate untill you laptop have established a connection? Just guessing lol

Called Sky who say it's a problem sometimes with the netgear adaptor.
They (Sky) say it should all be fixed now, will test it in another room later!
Cheers for the advice.:thumb:

But i still HATE working on my own PC's!!!!

I didn't see the part where you set the router up first...have you configured the router?...or was it already set up? Typically you need an Ethernet cable to set the router up before you can wirelessly connect.
