My problem is very confusing.
when I installed win 2000 pro. today I went to make my
dail up connection to my provider. I got through all the
setup parts until step 3. It asked me to name the
connection using only the usual characters. I named
it "NCIA" and it keeps telling me that it is not an
acceptable answer. There are no spaces before or after
the name and there are no other characters present. There
has to be a glitch or bug. Please help this confused user.

Just pick another name during this process. After it creates the connection,
try to rename it to what you want.

Aaron,
I have the same/similar problem. And I entered it to the
newsgroup yesterday, also - subject: Remote Access
Connection Manager Service won't start.

I tried many combination of names, but none would work. I
then looked in the system Event log and errors. You will
probably find them, also. The service won't start. The
error is logged each time I try to make a new connection.
See Start, Settings, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer.

If I find a solution, I will let you know.

Here is my posting to the newsgroup.

"I can't get Dialup/Remote Access services to start.
Here is the error I receive in the System Event log:

"Remote Access Connnection Manager failed to start because
it could not create buffers. Restart the computer. Access
is denied."
This error is followed by the log entry:

"The Remote Access Connection Manager service terminated
with the following error:
Access is denied".

The error appears to be permission related, since I have
plenty of disk space remaining.

I can't create any new dialup connection. The system
reports an error with any connection name I enter. The
problem is related to the error above.

RAS/dailup was working before I reinstalled the OS."

I entered the problem report to Microsoft and received
several possible solutions. One was a update to the
registry which solved my problem. It involved the removal
of several registry key entries. I will send the "fix" in
a separate message to you. I posted it on a problem report
I entered on 10/19/03, also. The report subject matter
is "Remote Access Connection Manager Service won't start".
