Setting up replication...I think!!

This may be way off base, but here goes anyways.
I have a win 2000 server box (as a DC)with exchange 2000
server running on it. The box is getting up in age and
since it's the only server box in our domain, I had the
bright idea to buy another copy of server 2000 to create a
second server box. I'm thinking that I want to set up the
second server to be replicated to in case of a catastrophe
involving the DC. The little that I know tells me that by
having a replication partner, if the first box should die,
the second would assume the role of DC and seamlessly take
over the duties of the first for our domain with as little
disruption as possible. Is my thinking on this way off
base? I need information on how I should go about this. I
tried to start the replication service for the exchange
server and it gave me one of those intimidating messages
that made me bail out on that idea. Where can I find
information on this? Thanks in advance for any and all
help.

Hi Dave,

You are correct that if DC1 dies then DC2 will continue. The old model of a
PDC and BDCs are gone in Win2000, all the DCs are equal. Some DCs are a
little more equal than others and hold special roles - you should be aware
of these to make sure things play well together in your environment.

I like to recommend "Mark Minasi's Mastering Windows 2000 Server". You
should also read some of Microsoft's white papers.
