JoAnne

I have been trying to set up remote assistance with my
mother. We are both running winXP pro. I have enabled
port 3389. I have enabled remote assistance in system
properties. I have tried using MSN messenger, through
the action menu, asking for remote assistance and that
didn't work. I have also tried using help and support.
When I click on inviting someone to help me, I keep
getting the message that Windows Messenger is not
installed. I have installed the latest 6.1 MSN messenger
and I still get the message that it is not installed and
when I click on download windows messenger, it brings me
to the same download that I just did. I have rebooted
the computer and I still get the same message. I want to
get this working so that I can help me mother. Please
help.

Hi JoAnne,

There are other ways of getting remote assistance and it might be worth
trying them. Although Messenger is probably the most convenient method, it
can be troublesome. I'd suggest trying the other 2 methods: e-mail or 'save
invitation as a file'. If your mother already has outlook express set up,
she can send you the invitation in email that way. If not, the invitation
file might be your best bet if you can direct your mother to save the
invitation & then send it to you as an email attachment or through messenger
by dragging it into the conversation window.

Hope this helps,
Drew
