I'm going to college. That leaves 5 people in my house who use the computer,
and 0 who actually know how to fix it if it goes down. my question is, what
would be the best way to set up access so that if they need help, i can login
no matter where im at? thanks

If the PC is running XP Pro you could use Remote Desktop to log in from
college and perform maintenance tasks, etc...

Note that if someone is already logged on the home PC then Remote Desktop
may log them off when you log on. See this article for details on how that
works...

If the home PC is running XP Home then use something like UltraVNC with its
encryption plug-in and XP video driver (install on the home PC only)...

Skip all of the Remote Desktop crap. It takes firewall setup on their end
and (unless they use Remote Assistance to request assistance from you and
allow you to take control - which requires thinking on their parts) they'll
only see a login screen while you work - hardly a good solution to show them
how to fix it themselves in the future.

Go to www.logmein.com and sign up for a FREE account. Using the FREE
version of Logmein, you can do everything except file transfer and remote
printing. No firewall setup needed, and you can get to the PC from any
internet-enabled PC.

Good luck at school!
