I would appreciate any help regarding how to set up
the "print to file" feature. I have XP Pro. When I use
the set up new printer wizard & get to the pick the
printer stage, it forces me to choose a manufacturers
printer. I need to be able to "print to a file."
Yes, you have to choose a particular printer when you print to a
file. When you print to a file, you still have to print in the
format of a particular printer. You can then actually print that
file by copying to a printer, but for it to be formatted
properly, you have to use the same printer that the print-to-file
choice was made to.
Here's an example of how you might use this: I used to prepare a
newsletter for publication. I did all the pages except one. That
single page was done by someone else who used software that I
didn't have on my computer. I needed hard copy of all the pages
to bring to the company who actually printed the newsletter.
So how did I get that page prepared by someone else? He printed
it to a file, having chosen *my* printer as the "file's" printer,
then E-mailed me the resulting file. When I got it, I copied the
file to my printer. It printed perfectly and I could then add his
single page to my others and take the results to the printing
company.
