I set up a new user for my girlfriend. After turning the
computer off and turning it back on, my girlfriend is not
able to log on. When she types in her password, the
computer only goes blank for a minute and then goes back
to the Windows Welcome Screen. How can I resolve this
issue?

Hi:

Check here to see if you made no mistake while creating the account.
HOW TO: Create and Configure User Accounts in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;279783

If you created the account correctly, change it to the administrators
group and see if that allows logon... if you are successfull change
the account back to regular users group and see if logon is
now posible.

If logon is still not posible go to Start\Run\type; control userpasswords2
and hit enter\remove check mark from "Users must write their name and
password to use the computer"\Apply\enter the user account and the password.

See if logon is now successfull... if so, go back to control userpasswords2
and restore logon with a password... try normal logon now.

If nothing works, the profile may be damaged
to resolve this issue, create a new user profile.
