I have a LAN working from my server computer(Win2000) to my second computer (WinXP and
Win2000). I have the network working between the server and the WinXP boot...I'm trying
to get it working when I boot up into Win2000 on the second computer. Could someone give
me some basic direction, I'm not getting anywhere checking in My Network Places, and my
knowledge is basic at this point.

Thanks, jc

Many possibilities and not enough information to narrow them down. In
general:

1. Give the machine a different name under each OS.

2. Check drivers and make sure the network adapter is functioning under
Win2k.

3. Check IP address for compatibility or set it manually in Win2k. The
addresses should be different under each OS.

Hi Doug,

I discovered that the network adaptor hadn't been set up in Win2000. I downloaded the
correct driver (Netgear FA311 adaptor) and installed it...but it apparently was one not
on Microsofts verified list although it seemed to install ok. But I get the error
message "this device cannot start", referring to the adaptor. So I'm stuck on that,
trying to figure out what it means and how to take care of it. I may try the WinXP
driver that is working ok, but it is a different file. Other than that, I'd appreciate
some suggestions.

Regards,

jc

Thanks Doug, that's a real good link...I was looking at the wrong website for
information. I'll try the other version and see if it works.
