Set up DNS to use Group Policy in Active Directory.

When the client TCP/IP DNS is set to the network DNS, the
client doesn't see the Internet.

What is missing in the Network DNS?

'Forwarders' IP addresses into the DNS might do the
trick?, but the DNS is a 'root' server. Is the proper
way to setup the DNS? A 'root' server is at the highest
level of the domain, ie... com, org, mil.

Looking for a doc to walk through setting up a DNS.

Thanks,
Jim

Forwarders to your ISP's DNS.

Forwarders tab says 'forwarding not available because
this is a root DNS'.

What makes a DNS a 'root' server?

Delete the Root zone, then go back and configure the forwarder. It thinks
it's the top of the hierarchy and there is not DNS hierarchy above it. You
don't want that if you require Internet resolution. This article shows how
to do all that:

A Root Forward Lookup zone, it is a "." you can delete this zone no problem,
then you can enable a forwarder if you want. Deleting the root zone also
enables the Root Hint servers, so internet resolution will start working
without a forwarder.
The forwarder will increase the efficiency of your DNS server.
