Hi Guys,

I am having a difficult time understanding how to setup a
virtual private network. I have tried everything to make
VPN work. For example, I have open all the necessary
ports on my router. On my host computer I have setup
network that accepts VPN protocols. I have port forward
the data from my router to my host computer. I have even
made the LAN IP address static for that computer. I came
to a conclusion that it must have to be the setting on my
WIN XP Pro that is blocking it to connect to the network.

I was hoping that someone can show me the ropes on how to
change the configuration on the WIN XP PRO so it cna
listen to client computer from a remote location.

Basically, if you were confuse i am trying to access my
private LAN share folders at a remote location. I was
hoping to use anyones help to figure this out.

I can ping my host name and it does not fail. The error
code is 800. I am not sure what to do. Thanks for helping
me out. Let me tell what I have done so far. I have made
my LAN ip address static. On my D-Link DI-624 Router, I
have setup forwarding. I also am using No-Ip.com software
so it keeps track of my WAN IP addres. it is
http://shahman.no-ip.info. I do not know what else to do
since the error code 800 keeps coming up. On host side, i
have setup to answer my VPN protocol. Anyhow, I hope you
can help me out here

quoted from http://www25.brinkster.com/ChicagoTech
Error 800: Unable to establish the VPN connection. The VPN server may be
un-reachable, or security parameters may not be configured properly for this
connection.

Resolutions:
1) if you have firewall, open TCP Port 1723, IP Protocol 47 (GRE).
2) make sure you can reach the VPN server by using ping.
3) You may need to updated firmware on a router or firewall if other OS
(win9x/nt/me/w2k) works except XP.
4) The VPN server may not be able to get IP from DHCP for the VPN client.
So, you may want to re-configure VPN host networking settings. For XP pro
VPN host, go to the Properties of the VPN>Network, check Specify TCP/IP
address and Allow calling computer to specify its own IP address, and
uncheck Assign TCP/IP addresses automatically using DHCP.
