Setting up IMAP account

I'm having difficulty with using Outlook to access an
IMAP account. The account is primarily intended to be
accessed through my university's webmail site. Once I've
added this account, Outlook creates a separate folder for
it - does anyone know how to set up the inbox in
the "Outlook Today" folder to be the designated inbox for
an email account? Secondly, while this alternate inbox
functions, deleting messages is somewhat problematic -
there is no Deleted Items bin in the folder that Outlook
created for this email account, so when I delete a
message, it gets a line through it, but simply stays in
the inbox for a random amount of time, before
disappearing altogether, even if I shut down and reopen
Outlook (the deleted message immediately disappears from
the email server, since it is not in my inbox when I use
the webmail site). I'm assuming this problem will be
corrected if I'm able to use the Outlook Today folder for
this email account, since there is a Trash bin there.
Any help would be appreciated!

That's how IMAP works - since it doesn't support the special folders and all
items in the local folder are synced with the server, it needs to have a
personal folder of it's own.

You need to Edit, Purge deleted items to get rid of the deleted items. I use
a view to hide or group deleted items, so they aren't in my face all the
time.

Thank you for clarifying that - I guess I'll just have to
deal with separate folders!
