Hello, THANK YOU heaps for replying to my previous post.

I'm trying to set up a home network with 2 PCs, both
connected directly to my broadband via a switching hub.
Can you help me with the configurations on the PCs or the
switching hub, if any configurations are required at all?

Or is my choice of using a switching hub a correct one?

Please kindly help,
Sahar

Unless your isp is giving you 2 ip addresses, your configuration won't
work. Even if you do get 2 ip addresses you won't have a LAN. You'll have 2
independent Internet connected computers.

Trade the switch for a router.

See these sights for configuration options:

Sahar,

I use this hardware combination myself.

[ pc2]---[pc1]---[netgear switch]---[cable modem]

Note that you need 2 Network Interface Cards
on pc1. pc1 is the internet sharing computer.
You must run ICS on pc1. Only 1 IP address is
required from you ISP. Be aware that using this
method involves the use of Network Address
Tranlation [NAT], so you can't use some forms
of VPN on pc2.

Chuck

I recently did the same thing. I have a desktop with Win2K
and a laptop with XP. I connected both through a Netgear
Hub and then uplinked the Hub to my DSL router. It was
basically just plug and play.

Hope this helps.
