Setting up HD for XP Pro

Please tell me what the "ideal" configuration for hard drive(s) is for XP
Pro. For instance, would it be best to install XP Pro on one hd and then the
data on another?

What about software I have CD's for, like Office 2002? Should they be
installed on the same drive as XP Pro, the same drive as the data or a
seperate (third) one?

Finally, if I download a program from the Web, where should I install it?
Thanks for helping!

I don't really care about portability. I'm just trying to find out if there
is any advantage to keeping the OS seperate from the data. Is the "best
practice" to keep the OS seperate from everything else, then have another hd
for data and yet another for the programs? Or is it best to install the OS
and programs on one hd and all the data on another hd?

you didn't specify the exact size of the drives you are talking about...but...
lets say you have a twenty gig drive (like i do).....I have XP and all of
my programs installed on the main C: drive
I have all of my pictures, files, and other data on my slave drive which
is a 60 gig...this way i can always swap that drive and take it with me to
other computers if i had to....it is all a matter of preference....

No...then there isn't really any advantages...you can have the portability and the security of your data on one drive (in case of disk failure or corruption in the main disk) but it isn't going to make anything noticebly slower by having everything on one drive...
