setting up gateway

hi

i have seen 2 setups for setting a gateway. Server with
dhce/dns/activedirectory (AD), proxy server (Proxy)

1) dhcp points to the proxy server
2) dhcp points to itself ( which somehow points to the proxy ). what's
the mechansim to do this?

whats the correct way of doing this? disadvantages/advantages?

If you're using a proxy server, it should be the default gateway.
