I'm trying to do the fax set up using Windows XP
Professional... It keeps saying that I need the file
C:\WINDOWS\inf\i386 but I don't even have that directory
and my disk is left at my other place of residence. is
there a way to access that file elsewhere?

You might not really need the original CD. See if there is an I386
folder on your hard drive. Many PC manufacturers put the compressed
Windows files there. When you get to the point where Add Windows
Components asks you to put in the CD, point it to the I386 folder. I
installed Windows Fax this way.

You could try this out.
