does anyone know how to setup external dns servers for
hosting email and websites. Right now we host sites for
several clients as well as email accounts. We have had to
park everything with the companies that we buy the domain
names through. we would like to host our own dns servers.
I would appreciate any help. Thanks, Art

That is usually the BEST choice -- especially given your question.

If you have to ask this, then you are better off leaving the DNS at the
Registrar if they provide YOU an interface to add records. (Even most
experts should prefer this, and do. I have my DNS with Register.com.)

You setup your own DNS the SAME WAY and add the SAME records.

Stick with the registrar unless they are flakey -- in that case, find a new
registrar. Register.com works well and YOU control the records.

There are books written on what you ask, it can't be answered in a
newsgroup post. A specific question could be, so once you hit a snag
be sure and ask, but for now, pick up a book and start reading. Or at
leats start with the Help section of your computer system.
