I've just installed a Win 2K fileserver on an existing network. Previous to
this
installation, everyone within this organization logged into the exiting
network domain.
As part of the new configuration, one team will no longer be a member of
the existing domain and a new workgroup has been setup for them.

The members of this workgroup have a variety of desktop configurations
including: Windows 2000, Win XP, Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X. All of the Macs
are able to view the fileserver had gain access to all files without issue.
However I have been unable to connect to the fileserver or see any of the
computers in the workgroup from any of the Windows PC's. While I see the
workgroup in the network neighborhood, there are no computers listed or
available. I have tried to map directly, but this has also failed.

All of the workstations are now part of this workgroup and are no longer on
the domain.

At this point, I am looking for any clues or ideas as to what may be going
on.

Thanks.

Make sure that all machines, including the server, use the same
workgroup name.

Having different workgroup names will NOT prevent you from
making direct connections. Try this:

- Start a Command Prompt on one of the workstations.
- Type this command:
net use x: \\YourServer\YourShare

Drive X: will now be mapped to YourShare. This is independent of
any workgroup name.
