setting up an alias in DNS

I have 2 SQL2000 Servers in my AD. One is a test server
and the other will be the production server. To minimize
programmer problems and tasks in moving databases from
one server to another I want to create an alias in my DNS
Records. I want to be able to have two computer names
pointing to one specific IP address. This way when the
databases get transfered to the production machine and
clients connect to the databases in the new machine the
DSN will send them there because of the alias entry.

Can I do this and if so how?
 
Hi Steve,

As far as the alias record goes you just need to create a CNAME record in
DNS pointing to the HOST record or which you are creating an alias. You may
run into an issue connecting to the server with alias, if so try the steps
