Setting up AD replication...

I'm relatively new to the AD environment and I'm having
trouble setting up replication for our domain controller.
Our AD is extremely small (20 members) so minimizing
traffic is not an issue. Does anyone have any idea where
I can find some easy to follow instructions to setting up
a backup AD controller? I mean really basic.)

Thanks,
Craig

Setting up AD and replication for such environments is incredibly
easy -- so easy that you probably didn't even realize that was the
"whole deal."

A) First ake sure you DNS is correct:
1) Dynamic DNS server (set)
2) ALL clients pointed ONLY at the internal Dynamic DNS server (set)
3) DCs and even DNS servers are DNS clients too (see rule #2)

Restart Netlogon service on the DC if you mess with this; run DCDiag from
support tools if you aren't certain it is right -- save output in a text
file and
search for FAIL, WARN, or ERROR.

B) Add another server to the domain -- run DCPromo and specify
"additional domain controller" and you may be done. Remember the client
DNS settings on the NIC for this server point ONLY to the internal Dynamic
DNS server (set.)

If you have a WAN involved then we must talk about "Sites" but for a single
LAN then that is pretty much it.

Run DCDiag on each DC to verify your work.
