Setting up a new DNS

Hi all,

I have 5 W2K servers on my domain. I want to configure
two servers with the service DNS (obviously because it is
a domain). I have an outside resolver for internet
addresses. My DNS servers will only be forwarders. I
was just wondering if you would advise me to create
Zones. By the way I also have two subnets. Want to
configure one server in each. Should I configure Dynamic
Updates? Active Directory Integrated Replication?? If
there is an article on this I would appreciate.

No, your DNS servers need to hold the ZONE that supports
your Win2000 domain AND forward to the outside revolver
for all other (e.g., Internet) names.

Yes -- see above, you NEED your Win2000 "support" zone.
Every Win2000 Domain needs a corresponding "dynamic DNS
zone."

Largely irrelevant -- IP (and it's DNS name resolution) is routable.

YES; It is a (virtual) requirement that the Zones supporting Win2000 be
dynamic.

As to "one on each subnet", that's fine, might offer some limited advantages
but probably isn't that big a deal compared to just having REDUNDANCY
by having TWO of them.

IF the two DNS servers are on DCs then there is very little reason not
to do this. It isn't a requirement but there are advantages, so take them.

At the MS Windows2000 home page are links to tons of stuff. The Win2000
Resource Kit (books and they are included in TechNet) and TECHNET.

Get TechNet, use TechNet, Keep the TechNet viewer running on your management
station desktop.

Did I mention TECHNET?
