Setting up a home web server

So a neighbor hands me this old Dell system stating that she
had viruses and so forth and doesn't want it anymore. PIII 733/128MB
RAM. I'm thinking it's a toy for the kids games but slowly a light
came on and ..

Well I'm thinking about learning a little about databases. And
client/server setup. I have this old copy of Windows 2000 Pro, 512MB
of RAM and a SCSI drive around here somewhere. The PIII just might
work ..

So, if I were set up that system as a server for the home and
I wanted to publish a local web so that my family might enjoy
streaming streaming music, video and access to a central location of
files, which database would be the best to handle the gazzillion files
I would be pushing onto this little server ?

Note that I don't have to use that older system. Also Win2K
Pro was pretty good but I can get another OS if needed.
