I am going nuts trying to reset my home network after installing windows
vista on one of my computers.
I had xp installed on both PCs ( one Dell desktop and another dell laptop)
and using a D-link router, I was able to share internet connection, files and
printers all on a home network.
After installing Vista on the desktop, I can no longer see the laptop (still
running xp).
I tried the vista home network connection wizard without success. My desktop
cannot see the laptop and vice versa.
Can someone help me please?
Thanks,

I had that same problem, i tried mapping a drive from one of my computers
running win XP and it saw it but not the network. I unmapped the drive with
caused network center to stop responding. After a few minutes of no
responding i just went ahead and remapped another folder. Then i forced
network center to shut down which caused windows explorer to reset. When it
came up It detected all my computers on the network that was running XP.
That was wierd. I cant explain what happened but maybe this discription
might make sense to someone. Anyway Vista is now seeing and talking to my
windows XP computers.

I dont see it listed specifically as network center. can you tell me which
proccess it was listed as?

Ctrl+Alt+Del then select start task manager. You should see network center
as one of the programs running.

Ok. I didnt see it but just shut down all processes i could. Restarted and
the network shows up now. So far not too impressed with Vista. Thanks for the
help though.

Thanks Coltrus,
I finally get it to work, in a different way though.
I ran the home network wizard from my XP computer and then saved the
configuration to a jump drive, which I used to run on the Vista computer. I
came with an error, but after restarting both computers, it worked.
The other way (from vista to xp) doesn't seem to work.
Anyway, I agree with Jeff in that Microsoft needs to make the home
networking in vista more user friendly (especially given that more people are
networking their home).
Thanks guys.

Can anybody tell me how to change the workgroup name in Vista? My home
network is not WORKGROUP so of course the Visat PC cannot connect to the
other PCs on the network, but I can't find out how to change it...

thanks

Alan

I do it the old fashioned 'classic' way....

Open control panel
switch to 'classic' mode
open 'System'
you'll see the option to 'change' in the lower half of the screen

Start > Control panel > in the "Computer Name, Domain, and workgroup
settings" click on change settings > Click on the Change button where it says
"to rename this computer or join domain, click change" > from there make your
changes.
