I need to know how you set a password on a DSL connection. I am the administrator of my system and need to prevent underage children from accessing the internet without myself or my wife being present. Any help would be appreciated.

What operating system are you using?

Create a profile and password for each user. for each user.
Do not forget the Default Administrator visible in Safe Mode.

when I tried it, creating a new profile and password did Not prevent the

It's possible that your DSL connection already has a password already set
up. I have a DSL connection, and mine has a username and password already
set up. I never saw it before, because the box labeled "Prompt for Username
and Password" was not checked. (See Properties for the Network Connection.)
When I checked the box labeled "Prompt for Username and Password", (I had to
log off and log in again, for this to take effect.) then I saw the Username,
but the Password appears as dots. (Now I have to manually start the DSL
connection with the shortcut.) I believe this would be true for you, if you
connect using PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE). This would not be true, if you use
an always-on static IP address.

Now regarding your underage children, if you create a new Limited Account
for them, and you delete the password from this dialog box (that appears if
you check the box labeled "Prompt for Username and Password"), then they
cannot access the internet without the password. The catch is, you cannot
access the internet from this new account either, if you don't know the
password. (You can still access the internet from the Admin account, if you
did not delete the password there.) You should have received a list of
Account Settings that include Username and Password, when the DSL account
was set up for you. That's how I know my Username and Password.
