There's some real weirdness with PowerPoint 2003. It seems to require
flipping to the master view and back for the new default font to always show
up. I never noticed that before.
Hmm. Just started a new pres, nothing selected, picked Algerian off the
formatting toolbar. I can *assure* you that it wasn't my default font before.

It is now (new text boxes, new autoshapes), but I didn't have to visit the
master to get there.
Ah well. I've just spent the whole afternoon tracking down and working around
an obscure bug that manifests itself slightly differently in PPT 2002/2003.
Same code that runs w/o a whimper in 2000 just flattens the newer ones. MS
Error Reporting must be getting very tired of me. ;-)
