setting mouse and idle time

how do i set my mouse? right now it takes a hard long
click for the mouse to register on the button want to set
it to a soft short click. Also how do i set my idle time
to zero. I am computer dummy and with windows 98 i could
find this stuff but with XP i am lost and don't have a
single manual for it. If anyone can help me i would
appriciate it thanks

'start' button / 'Control Panel' (in righthand pane) / double-click 'Mouse'
