Can someone please direct me as to how/where I can set
what my save file extension to be as a default.

XP seems to change itself from .bmp to .jpg at will (it
seems!) and I cannot seem to reset it, on fly or a fixed
default somewhere in Windows. (This is for saving photos
from the web by right click of mouse)

Help please anyone....

Your temporary Internet files need to be cleared, seems
strange but that is a common problem and well known. You
may want to open the IE Tools menu, Internet Options and
"delete" files and you can check the amount of disk space
reserved for those files with the "settings" button.

I guess (you don't say) that you are using Internet Explorer and saving
image files from the Internet. I suspect the root cause of your problem
is that the temp space is full for IE. Clear it out (and maybe make
bigger) in Menu: Tools/Internet Optoins, section "Temporary Internet
Files". Press the Delete button to clear out, and Settings to make
allocated space bigger.

Do you really mean .jpg to .bmp ?

If so, then follow Jim or Rob's advice, otherwise you
have an unusual problem.
