In WinXP Home is there a way to set the detail view the same for all folders
in a particular sub-directory in Windows Explorer without changing all the
folders on that particular drive. For example under "My Pictures" I would
like all the folders to have a thumbnail view and under "My Music" I would
like all the folders to show details such as size, duration, bit rate, album
title. I just installed a new hard drive and decided to rip all my CDs and
I have hundreds of folders and I don't want to set the attributes of each
folder individually and I don't want to change all the folders on the
computer, just those under "My Music."

Thanks,
PH

My Documents, My Music and My Pictures are already customized.

You can customize any other folder by right clicking on it, select
Propterties. Click the Customize tab. Select a folder template (documents,
photos, music, etc). There is a box that can be checked: "Also apply this
template to all subfolders."

So if you drop all of your music folders into one folder. Customize that
one folder and check that box, you should end up with what you want:
customization without having to customize each folder individually.

Sharon,
I created a folder under "My Music" and moved all my folders containing
albums under that one. I set that top folder to show details and selected
"name, size, bit rate, duration, album title, track number and year". Then
I right clicked on that folder and selected properties, customize and
checked the box "Also apply this template to all subfolders."

I checked the subfolders and it changed the details to "name, size, type,
date modified." Even the folders that I had set previously set to show
"name, size, bit rate, duration, album title, track number and year" had
been changed also.

I tried changing the folder options to "use windows classic folders" and
"Show common tasks in folders" and this does not make any difference. I
know that I can change all the folders on the hard drive to the particular
detail settings that I want by choosing Tools > Folder Options > View >
Apply to all folders, but I do not want all my folders to show those
details, just the folders under "My music."

There must be a way to do this, right?

Thanks,
PH

Go back and look at the Customize option in folder properties a little
closer. There are three different music templates to choose from.
