Hi!

I have a problem with setting OE6 as my default email program in IE after I
installed Office 97. Since I really wanted to use OE6, I uninstalled Outlook.

Now my OE6 works okay with my dial-up internet access. No problems with
sending and receiving emails, but I cannot set it to be the default email
handler using the Tool->Options popup window. And I also found that in IE,
Tools-> Internet Options popup -> Programs tab, there is no choices for the
Email field.

This problem has caused me to be unable to click on email addresses of
people on the webpages and other problems with 3rd party softwares.

Please help. Thanks.

Hi Lang,
Click Start, Run and type the following commands one by one:

"%programfiles%\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg

regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles%\Outlook Express\msoe.dll"

This restores Outlook Express under the email clients list.

Thanks Ramesh, the solution works.

Hey,

One more regarding this. My Nikon View 6 program seems to be unable to
communicate with my default email program.

I was trying to send a picture (jpg) using Nikon View. On another PC, I was
able to select a picture and click on the email button that is in Nikon View,
which will bring up Outlook Express with the pictures being attached.

I have tried uninstall and reinstalling Nikon View after executing the
commands that you gave me. That didnt work. What can I do about this?

Best,
Lang.

I had the exact same problem and tried to follow these instructions but I
can't get the last two to work. I need help.

Tried using Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs - "Set Program access and defaults" to set OE as the default mail client?

I go into control panel - Add/Remove Programs "Set program access and
defaults and the email doesn't not give me an option....It only let's me
choose "use my current email"

Sincerely

OE isn't right underneath the "Use Current"? It should appear there and
should be clickable. YOu need to be more specific about things; no one can
see your screens from here.

It's not there and it's not clickable so that is obviously my problem. I am
very sorry that I sound dumb but I am just a secretary trying to figure out a
problem without calling in a technician and paying hundreds of dollars. When
I go into Control Panel and go to Add Remove Programs and then Set program
access and defalts...then I go into custom and then choose default email
program there is no option other than use my current email program. There is
nothing else there. On my other computer the option is there for outlook
express or use my current email program. But on this particular computer it
is not there.

lol, never worry about sounding "dumb". We all were there are some point
and some of us still are, myself included!

OK, if I understand this correctly, you CAN get OE to run, right?

So, get OE running, and THEN go to the Set Program Access and Defaults and
when you click Use Current... , that should be OE since it's what you have
running. Right?
See if that works.

If not:
Is this XP Home or Pro? I haven't used Home in quite awhile so possibly
it's different than Pro is.

If you can't get OE to run, use Explorer and go to C:\Program Files\Outlook
Express and right click on msimn.exe, then choose Send To, and choose to
Send it to the Desktop (Shortcut).
Now you can click the icon on the desktop to start OE.

If Program files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe doesn't exist, try doing a search
of your hard drive to find it. If you can't find it anywhere, then
something is wrong with the installation and you may have to do a Repair
install to correct things.

Be very specific and detailed with your answers/comments for the best
assistance.

NOTE: Outlook and Outlook Express are two different things; careful to not
get them mixed up in your descriptions.
