Does anyone know of a way that i could set buttons on my keyboard or mouse to
a specific task. Under the controlpanel/ mouse or keyboard options i'm not
able to but i figure there must be some way.

First thing to try is making insure you have the manufacturers software
installed for your mouse and keyboard (as opposed to the native XP drivers).
This will then often provide you with the options with which to configure
your mouse/keyboard. The appropriate software is usually obtainable from the
relevant manufacturers website.

As the previous individual mentioned, your keyboard software must provide
this functionality. If it does, go to Control Panel > Printers and Other
Hardware > Keyboard. There should be a "Buttons" tab. If there is not,
verify you have previously installed KB908531. If yes, create a restore
point as a safety precaution, then go to Control Panels > Add or Remove
Programs.
Be sure the "Show Updates" box is checked at the top of the screen.
Remove KB908531.
Reboot and the "Buttons" tab from Control Panel > Printers and Other
Hardware > Keyboard should now be present. It provides you the means to
program the keyboard buttons.
