I cannot add my wife's school email account into outlook 2007. I can add it
to my blackberry but not to Oulook!! This seems odd. I've tried to go
through the Microsoft Exchange way and I've tried to use the HTTP entry
method as well. I've gone to the manual entry method and entered all of the
correct data, but it will not access the server. Is it even possible to add
this email account into Outlook? Why would I be able to add it to my Cell
phone but not to Outlook?

Is this an Exchange Server account? An Exchange Account won't work in
native mode over the Internet. RPC over HTTP won't work unless the Exchange
Server is setup to run that way; if it is, the school's Exchange Server
administrator will have the correct setup details. What's left is a VPN
tunnel to the school's network, Outlook Web Access, or POP3/IMAP service,
provided the Exchange Server is set to allow these. Your best source of
information would be the school's Exchange Server administrator.

Hi Hal,
Thanks for the info. I believe it is an Exchange Server Account and we can
access it through Webmail Outlook web access, but when we do that, Vista
won't let you reply or write a new email, hence the reason I was trying to
add it to Outlook. Is the reason I can add it to my Blackberry because that
is not over the Internet? I'll try and contact their administrator, but that
is difficult as they never seem very cooperative. For now we have to use
Firefox to access her Webmail at home. Thanks again for the info. Any other
suggestions would be helpful.

OK, the problem with web access on Vista is tprobably this known issue - an
update that must be added to the Exchange server:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911829/en-us
You receive an error message when you try to perform any editing tasks, or
you must click to enable the compose frame in Outlook Web Access

Your Blackberry has an agent server that logs in via POP3 (or possibly IMAP)
that's set to "leave a copy of mail on the server". This often has the
interesting effect of marking all the emails read the next time the mailbox
is opened in Outlook native (or IMAP) mode. Note that you can use Outlook
as both a POP3 and an IMAP client; I suspect both would work as an Exchange
Server supports both modes. IMAP would be preferable because it would give
her access to all her folders; it would NOT allow for such niceties as
Calendar, Tasks, etc.
