I have a new system with Windows XP; I am the
administrator. I am trying to set up a user account for
a family member who is new to computers. I am trying to
make her computer experience as seamless as possible.

I have obtained a MSM account for her to web browse and
receive e-mail. I had successfully set up an Outlook
account for her, but it seems to complicated for her. I
am trying to set an Outlook express account but with
challenges.

When trying to obtain messages from her e-mail account, I
get the following error message:

Unable to poll for new messages on our HTTP server.
Account 'MSN', Server
http://oe.msn.msnmail.hotmail.com/cgi-bin/hmdata'.
Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Responce:'Invalid login".,
Port:0, Secure (SSL)): No Error Number: 0x800CCC32

Should I have set the account as a pop account ( I don't
understand what it is )?

What is meant by 'Invalid login'?

Any help would be appreciated.

Jeremy, the MSN mail servers and Passport were really wacky for most of
last night. The MSN network status pages reported problems for both. I
was getting "invalid login" too but it seems to be okay today. Suggest
you try this again to see if it works and before trying other things.

If still having problems, try logging on the account while online. This
will help you to confirm if the account is working at all.

I have an old MSN account (one time choice of staying with POP or HTTP)
and am under the impression that new MSN accounts get the http mail
interface only.

Outlook Express can be setup to pick up that mail however it may be just
as confusing in OE as it was in Outlook for her. She may do better using
the web interface?

I believe MSN has a page at their member support pages that will setup
OE automatically.
