setting a password

When I click on File, then Open to access the list of databases in order to
set a password, I keep getting the My Documents window instead. Can anyone
help, please?

Many thanks. I have followed your guidance but although the database folder
opens, it does not present me with the name of the database as an .mdb file
so I am still unable to set a password. Any suggestions, please? What am I
doing wrong?

I'm not sure what a password have to do with anything, it sounds to me like
you're just having a problem opening an mdb file. When you do file/open,
what's in the "files of type" drop-down? It should be "Miscrosoft Office
Access", I think yours might be something else.

If it isn't listing any mdb files, then the current folder you're looking in
doesn't contain any mdb files. Use the 'Look in' drop-down at the top of
that dialog to choose a different location.

If you can't find the mdb files, you can always use Start, Search, Files and
Folders, and search for *.mdb

Many thanks. I have tried search on *.mdb. The results come up with a list
of the databases but they appear only by the text names they have been given
and not by their mdb suffix.

In the search results, just go to Tools, Folder Options. Click on the View
tab.

Uncheck 'Hide extensions for known file types', then click on Apply to All
Folders. Then OK.

Now click on the View menu and choose Details.

The file list will now show extensions, and also the full path to the file
locations.
