I am unable to set a default printer in Windows XP home
edition. When I go to print from any application, the
printer fiels is blank and I always have to select from
the drop down box. Does anyone know of a fix for this or
the cause?

James, do you mean when you go to Control Panel>Printers and Faxes Icon.
Open and rt click on Printer Icon. There's
no Set as Default Printer listed in the drop down menu?

There is the Set as Default printer listed in the drop
down menu, it just won't let you select it/put the check-
mark besided it. None of the printer are set as default
and will not allow me to select them as default. So, I
have no default printer and cannot set one.

James, what I would do next is go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel
and uninstall the Printer Software and Drivers
if there. Physically disconnect the Printer and restart without it. Then
go to the manufacturers site and look for any updated
drivers or software and install that. Then hook the printer back up and
see what happens.
