Hi All. I wanted to get the word out about a .NET Training program
located in New Jersey called SetFocus. The tuition for a three month
program there is almost $20,000 and the teaching is abysmal. SetFocus
employs some very deceptive tactics to find students too -- they post
"jobs" online and then when you contact them, they tell you that you
should sign up for their overpriced training program to get access to
great development jobs.

After signing up, I knew that I made a mistake and tried to withdraw.
They required that I pay them an incredible steep withdrawal fee, a fee
that I refused to pay, and they ended up suing me in court. What a
mess!

Anyway, I'm so furious with them, I'm fighting the lawsuit and have put
up a website trying to get the word out:
http://saynotosetfocus.googlepages.com/

Bottom line: Please be careful when selecting a .NET Training program!!

the best training is and always has been:

1. buy the dev tool (VS 2005 or express is free)
2. buy a book or two or three or four or five
3. read the books, work thru the samples using your dev tool
4. create small projects putting your knowledge to use
5. R&D (online or via MSDN)

For VS 2005 and .NET framework, there isn't a training course in the world
that can cover every aspect of the product and get it done in less than 2
years. And then there is OS level, IIS, SQL, ASP.NET, SSL, etc. etc. etc.

What is funny, is going to www.monster.com and searching for medium level
developer and seeing the salaray range in the 60-75K range and then a huge
list of required knowledge and experience. Keeping that in perspective, new
recruited police officers with ZERO experience are paid $65K + benefits +
"overtime" (which can be substantial - often higher than your base salary).
So 22 year old officer could be pulling down 6 digit income relatively
easily. So lets me think about this for a second, no experience and 100K+
with minimal knowledge requirements or huge knowledge requirements and
experience for 60K.

No wonder enrollment in computer science at University is considerably LOW.

Not to discourage you, but picking a career in computing is something you
really need to love, don't do it for the money, cause it just doesn't pay
like it used to.

Rob.
