i have two aliases on an account at fastmail.fm . i am finding that if i
reply to the aliases, outlook puts the pop username on the reply as the
'from'. not the alias that the email was originally sent to .

this makes the idea of using an alias pointless if any replies are involved,
unless i think to change accounts whenever replying under those addresses.

is there a way to get this to work correctly?

It is, in my opinion, wqorking correctly. Outlook doesn't care about the
*address* used to receive the message, it cares about the *account*. And the
address on the account that received the message is used when replying. Use
two mailboxes each with a unique address instead of one mailbox and two
aliases.

thanks brian. seems there is a methodology conflict between email provider
and outlook. outlook wants me to get another account. the mail provider
wants me to get a different email client.

i don't know why microsoft doesn't want to support aliases. i'm sure that
they have some explanation. i have never used aliases before this, but i
must say, that it is easier to have only one spam folder to check for false
positives then have to log out and in to several accounts checking them.

perhaps i need to rethink my use of email accounts, and having different
addresses for different purposes. i used to think that it is a good idea.
now, i don't know if it is worth the effort.

It's actually quite easy to train yourself to choose the correct sending
account each time.
