My desktop PC runs with Windows XP Home Edition. I now intend to buy a
Laptop and when I do it will obviously be running with Windows Vista. Can
the 2 be used together as a network using 2 different systems or do I have to
upgrade the desktop to Vista? If I do have to upgrade how do I know that it
is suitable? As you can obviously tell, I am not entirely PC literate! Any
help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks d:-)

You can network computers running Vista and XP together, with no problems. Just
understand the challenges.

With XP Home and Simple File Sharing involved, you'll want to disable Password
Protected Sharing under Vista.
