I am having a very simular problem. I have two XPs
connected to a linksys hub then to a cable modem. I have
tried all ways of setting up home network and direct
connection to no avail. I even have a cross connect cable
to go from one computer straight to the other and I can't
get it to recognize the other computer. If you get any
info on this that could be helpfull olease pass it along.
Good luck!

I had a similiar problem with two XP machines until I
set "computer browser" to automatic and started the
service on both computers.

To enable the service click start->run->then
type "services.msc" Scroll down to "computer browser"
and make sure it is set to automatic and started.

I believe the Network Location Awareness service is also
required.

Hope that helps.

Check all connections. Your cable modem must be plugged in WAN port of the
router.

Usually Linksys Routers use 192.168.0.1 IP address and 255.255.255.0 net
mask by default.
Now, you have to set your Win 2000's IP parameters:
IP address: 192.168.0.2
Net mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.0.1;

For your WinXP computer in the Network Connection Properties:
IP address: 192.168.0.3
Net mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.0.1;

If everything else is ok, this must work.
Good luck!
Andrei.

Make sure both PC are in same workgroup and subnet, and
have same user accounts. After that, ping each other see
what happens.
