when my ISP in AT&T? First, I hope I'm in the right newsgroup this time....

My modem died and I was given a new ADSL Sprint Modem , but I have AT&T as
my ISP. When I used Sprint's setup CD, installation could only be completed
with an Earthlink account.

I tried XP Network Wizard, but it could not find needed software when I
check box to "search CD and E:/" location (Sprint cd in drive). When I
checked "automatic set up" box, and filled in user name and password, I got
an Error about no
communication with server.

Next, I called AT&T Tech support who could only provide me with the type of
connection, IP and subnet(since it was not one of their supported modems),
and Sprints tech support number. I could not get through at Sprint.

How can I install this modem for my DSL connection with AT&T using XP/sp2?

Thanks, and again, I hope I'm in the right newsgroup this time...lol.

You may not be able to. Unlike standard telephone modems, not all ADSL
modems are interchangeable. A modem that works on Sprint ADSL may well not
be able to connect to AT&T ADSL service.

AT&T sent you the modem and won't support you?

Did you try resetting the modem (usually a tiny reset button on the
back you can push in with a pencil for about a minute) to factory
defaults?

Then try to use a straight through (patch) cable and open a Web
browser to configure it. I don't know the default username/password,
nor the default IP of the Sprint modem you're trying to work with.

You'll need all the connection info from AT&T to set up the modem
manually like this, which it sounds like you have already.

another thought-- are you leasing or did you purchase the modem? can
you return it and buy your own?

You need to know that DSL modems are not all the "same." Some units
have the PPPoE setting "recorded" into them and act like a router.
Also, several ISP branded DSL units may not be compatible with the
different levels of DSL (PPPoE, PPPoA, G-Lite)
