I have someone who regularly uses Explorer to search two specific
locations. He is always manually typing
M:\long complicated path;H:\Relatively Simple Path
into the "Look in:" field.

Is there anyway to either make that the default value of "Look
in" or to at least permanently add it to the drop-down list ?

You could start a Search in the desired path, then File|Save Search then
copy the *.fnd to the desktop.

Duh ! Talk about a blonde moment.

It has been so long since I saved a search that it never occurred
to me when the need came up again.

I don't know of a way to make it the default for a general search, but
what you can do is to save the search (File > Save Search) after executing
it once. You may want to clear the filename box first. The result is a
..fnd file that contains the parameters of the search. You can set up a
shortcut to that file so that a double-click, or single-click if you put
it on the Quick Launch bar, will open the search box to the desired
location.

Same here. I almost never use them.
