I am trying to open microsoft powerpoint slide show and i get this error
message: This file does not have a program association with it for performing
this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel. How
do i do this?

Control Panel -> Default Programs -> Associate a file type or protocol
with a program.

Though I haven't had much luck getting Vista to actually use the program
I tell it to use for a paticular file type. There's a program "Creative
Element Power Tools", which has an "Edit file type associations" (File
Type Doctor) which supposedly gives you the power to set file type
associations, something that Windows XP had by default, but for some
reason that ability is completely missing from Vista. 45 day free trial,
so might as well try it to see if it works:

(Though I'm still having problems getting Vista to associate a program
with a file type.)

Worked very well.
