Can anyone recommend a good book that covers what each of the services does? I read an article recently, the gist of which was that too many services opened tended to slow down performance - particularly at booting up. Would appreciate any pointers. Tks.
 
See the link below, it is about the most complete I've seen for descriptions
of services. Note, only turn off a service or two at a time and see if it
causes a problem with anything you do. All personal PC's are different in
their setups and needs.
