I know I need (ish) to run these

Alg
Svchost
Lsass
Mcrdsvs
Services
Userinit
Winlogon

All .exe

But my Question is, Do they All need to have access to the internet?

Thanks

Kezz

No. One may listen, but the others need no internet access.

Update your antivirus software and run a full system scan.

Update whatever anti-spyware applications that you have and run a full
system scan with each one.

You might want to start in Safe Mode to run your antivirus and anti-spyware
software.

Running a full system antivirus scan or anti-spyware scan in Safe Mode can
be a good idea. Some viruses and other malware like to conceal themselves
in areas Windows protects while using them. Safe mode will prevent those
applications access and therefore unprotect the viruses or other malware
allowing for easier removal.

The Svchost.exe file is located in the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder. At
startup, Svchost.exe checks the services part of the registry to construct a
list of services that it must load. Multiple instances of Svchost.exe can
run at the same time.

Thanks very much for that Wesley,

A very full and helpful explination.

So i'll leave mcrdsvc and block internet access to the rest.

Also thanks for the links, a good read for learning.

Have a great day

Hi

Yes I did, nothing found.

So they are the real deal.

Mcafee and spybot.

Can't have Lavasoft anymore with Mcafee.

Mcafee did an update, and TOLD me I had to remove Lavasofts Adware Before
Mcafee will install.

Thanks again

If it were me, I would keep Adaware and get rid of McAfee instead. There are
lots of better anti-virus programs around.

Ken beat me to it.

McAfee sucks. And they probably lied to you.

I've always had Mcafee, And yeah I do agree about what you both say.

It's just one of those things that you get used to. Always had it, hard to
get rid of it.

But since this, no being able to install till I get rid of Adware, is IMO
over the top.

I don't like being told what software I can or can't have.

I buy some software, and I want to install it, without question of other
programs on my computer.

So to this end, when my DATs run out and time to renew, I think it will go.

The computer came with Norton, And i don't know if it's any good, but I
hated it. And deleted it within an hour.

I have tried Zone alarm and thought that was OK. So may go down that route.

Thanks guys for pointing out your love for Mcafee, Lol

Why wait, when there are excellent freeware choices available?

Good. It's even worse than McAfee. They are probably the two worst
anti-virus products available.

I have tried Zone alarm and thought that was OK. So may go down that

The regular ZA is just a firewall, not an anti-virus program. I recommend
the freeware Avast anti-virus. I've also heard good things about the
freeware AVG, but I have no personnal experience with it.

Thanks Ken

having a look now at Avast anti-virus Home edition

And look good.

As for firewall do you think Zone alarm os Ok

Thanks again Ken

I've been using the free version of ZA for years. I think it's fine.

Thanks again Ken

You're welcome. Glad to help.
