Services started vs. Running processes

In XP Home, I employed the utility Startuplist.exe to list running
processes. I reported 13, plus a handful of odds and ends.

Whwn I read the dialog for Control panel/Administrative tools/Services,
it reports 40 services started.

Why is there not a one to one correspondence between processes and
services?

Many services run under the svchost.exe process
