I take it you are having sound issues?

Take a look at this:

Lots of good info there if you're having problems.

Once I installed Nero's Mixer. It banged out all Windows sounds. To
restore, I uninstalled the program and edited the registry to restore the
"default" key.

Kelly covers the restoring of the registry's "default" key and more under
"Where did my sounds go?" on this page:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm

PS: Windows Audio service, working hardware and working drivers is all that
should be needed to get sound. The rest - fancy mixers, startup helpers,
etc - are "extras."

Thanks, folks. Yes, I'm having sound issues. Nero's not the problem.
I uninstalled my sound drivers, downloaded new drivers from Sony, but no
joy. All I get is a system beep. I don't want a system beep. I use the
computer in class and I want it silent.

I want full sound when I use it at home. I don't have any fancy sound
stuff on it.

So, am I supposed to go into BIOS and disable the system beep default?
If so, how?

I'll look at the links you provided, and post back after some more
experimenting.

Perhaps if available try an earlier version Sony driver.
I had a Sony that when the onboard modem driver was updated the modem
failed. Tried sveral times, rolled back the driver and it was fine.

Been there. Done that.
Something has killed my sound dead. And started up system beeps
instead. I HATE IT!
I've had tons of suggestions from the great people in these groups --
but nothing has worked. Maybe I'm installing the drivers wrong. Maybe I
did something to the services. Maybe I did something that affected the
codecs. Don't know the difference between device - driver - codecs anyhow.
