Hi all ..... sorry about the length of the post ;-)
I work for my local health authority and we've just rolled out XP SP1 to
1800+ users. We used 3 or 4 different types of hardware for desktops
including Compaq EN 500's, EP733's, SX260 / 70's and GX150/260's.
The problem we're seeing is that quite a few of the EN500's are showing an
error when they're booted first thing in the morning. The error they show
is: "Services.exe failed to initialize." and the machine gets no further.
The users have to hit the power button and start again. The 2nd time they
boot they can log in as normal. No other models of the desktops we upgraded
are showing this error at boot up but not all the EN500's are..... (when we
upgraded it was via images so there's no files or settings left behind to
cause this).
On a lot of these EN500's we've changed the NIC Link Speed/Duplex from
'Auto-Detect' to the correct setting for the site that they're placed in. So
far this has cured them all apart from one machine.
This single pc is situated in a building which is running at 100/Full so we
set the Link Speed to that but it didn't work. We then knocked the port down
to 100/Half and also matched that on the client. Nothing doing. This one
machine shows the 'Services failed....... ' no matter what we do.
Does anyone know of anything else we can try?
Thanks
WW
