service pack updates

I use to have a 13 gig hard drive in PC could do the
updates just fine,changed to a 40 gig and everytime I do
the service packs I can't boot up the pc it says device
is missing or device has changed I have to reinstall
2000,anyone seen this before?

Has the 40 GIG worked before? Is this the first time? Do you have the
jumpers selected properly on the drive? Most likely the jumper choice
should be MASTER or COMPUTER SELECT - note the drive's documentation and
where you attached it on the motherboard.

Also . . . if you had a 13 GIG, your machine might be a tad old . . .
perhaps a BIOS update is needed to recognize the drive. Check your vendor's
web site.

Drive works fine as long as I don't do the service pack
updates it's after that it messes up have done BIOS
update is current

I did some searching at the MS Knowledge base and found three articles that
