Louise

I want to download a golf game for my husband from a disk
onto my new laptop with XP. I keep on getting an error
message that says
" You cannot install this VB5 application without the
latest service pack being installed onto this computer.
Please instal the latest service pack and rerun this
installation"....
What does this all mean???? I know nothing about windows
XP.... My desktop has windows 98 and the game loads
fine. Thank you for any help....

Hi Louise,

On your XP computer, click Start / Windows Update (top left)
and install the Critical and Recommended updates that it offers.

This will not only include Service Pack 1.a, but also essential
security updates that are critical to protect you when you're online.

Quick note: Install the critical updates, but do not install the recommended
updates. If you do, you may render the laptop unusable.

Recommended updates assume that you are using Microsoft Certified drivers.
If you aren't (and you won't be with a laptop), you may in fact backdate
your drivers or even render them useless.

Excuse me? Where are you getting this misinformation, Courtney?

Yes Courtney, the recommended updates should be installed!

However, the Drivers updates can be ignored. Most of the time the drivers
are very out-of-date.
