Does XPe use a specific version of SP1a, or will the
general one for XP/XP Professional work just fine?

Thanks.

You can obtain Windows XPE with SP1 from your distributor, or you can
download QFE-s from web.

Thanks for the response but since I'm not familiar with
QFE's, perhaps a little background info about what I'm
trying to accomplish is in order.

I'm trying to apply the MSBlaster patch to a network
appliance running XPe and when I attempt to apply the
patch, I get an error indicating that Service Pack 1 must
first be installed. The appliance does report the OS
as "Microsoft Windows XP Embedded Version 2002."

Assuming that the version of XPe on the appliance can be
upgraded with SP1, I was wondering what would be the best
way to approach this, the ultimate goal being to apply the
MSBlaster patch.

As a (perhaps) related aside, the MSBlaster patch that I'm
attempting to apply was downloaded from the appliance
vendor and appears to contain some vendor-specific code,
as the vendor's logo was displayed while it attempted to
install, before ultimately failing to do so.

Thanks again for any and all responses.

Best Regards,
Ian

I can't say that you are in wrong group, but I don't know what you can do.

You can search this group for more info on this subject. This subject was
discussed few weeks ago, but I don't know will this apply to you.

You should contact support from device manufacturer.

SP1 for XPe is actually a completely different build, I
don't think you can upgrade. However, if you search this
group with google, as Slobodan suggested, I believe there
is a way to use this patch on pre-SP1 systems, look for
posts by Jon Fincher, Andy Allred or anything mentioning
xpefiles.com - I think there may well be something there
about it, or at least about how to manually apply the
patch.

I just spoke to the appliance vendor and they are sending
me a CD with XPe with SP1, along with instructions to re-
image the appliance.

Many thanks to all who helped, most notably Slobodan,
Heidi and Lynda.

You're welcome. I hope you enjoy the additional features and improvements in
SP1.--

Lynda
